Gerrit Rietveld (1888 – 1964) was a pioneer in the modernist movement. His red-blue chair and the three-pipe hanging lamp were the first symbols of a new era. The Rietveld lamp, also known as the L40 hanging lamp, is a daring and groundbreaking design.
Iconic lamp
The Blue Art Barn Lighting is an official dealer of this iconic lamp. The first tube lamp was designed by Rietveld in 1922 and it was made for the progressive Dr. Hartog. The sublime design of the lamp exists of three tube lamps, which are stuck between black, cube-shaped pieces of wood. The white electrical wires are enclosed by 6 acrylate tubes and they are connected to the pieces of wood. They have been suspended on a square, black-vanished ceiling plate of 40 x 40 cm. The open structure and independence of the vertical and horizontal tube lamps have a composition that is similar to the famous wooden furniture by Rietveld.
Options
When you have the L40 lamp by Rietveld in your home, you will have an icon in your house that is both uncomplicated and ingenious. The Rietveld lamp is available in two lengths: 155 cm and 55 cm. At a surcharge, both lamps can be shortened if this is desired. The incandescent light tubes are 60W and are perfect in combination with a dimmer. Besides, the lamps last longer when they are dimmed. The incandescent lamps for the Rietveld lamp are available in many places, so they can easily be replaced if needed: Tip: it is easier to install or exchange the lamp when using a little bit of acid-free Vaseline. Pay attention that the lamp is switched off when using it. It is also possible to opt for non-dimmable CFLs of 8W. The electronics to operate these CFLs are inside the tube. That is why there is a shadowy line of about 1.5 cm along the entire length of the tube on one of its sides. The two horizontal tubes can be positioned with this side up. For the vertical tube you pick the side that will get the least attention.
