The lamps and decorations of the Coloured by Art© GEOMETRIC series are clean lines, simple shapes and highly functional. A modern appearance, founded on craftsmanship. The Geometric designs refer to a rich, historical past. A feast for the eyes for those who love Japanese architecture. All elements are balanced. Shades, colours and shapes are in harmony with each other. Decorative without embellishment and perfect in appearance.
Very familiar with the East-was the group of designers, architects, industrialists and artists who founded the Deutscher Werkbund in 1907. This formed the forerunner of the Bauhaus. Japanese design fitted perfectly with the artistic trends of the time.
Influenced by Dutch artist Theo van Doesburg, who together with Piet Mondrian had founded the De Stijl art movement in 1917, Bauhaus evolved from expressionism to modernism.
The Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto, Japan touched the hearts of modernist thinkers and beyond. It became a major architectural attraction. The simple, recurring, three-dimensional structures are the main features of the imperial villa.
German architect Walter Gropius (1883- 1969), founder of the Bauhaus School, wrote to French-Swiss architect Le Corbusier (1887-1965) about the Katsura Imperial Villa: "Dear Corbu, everything we have fought for runs parallel in ancient Japanese culture ... Japanese houses are the best and most modern examples I know, and they really are models to idealise."
